Adventures in Seattle

During the last few days of August, we took a trip up to Seattle, Washington to do a little sightseeing and exploring.  We brought our trailer and "camped" so we didn't have to pay for a hotel.  

Wednesday August 26th

We left on Wednesday afternoon and it's about a 3 hour drive.

 We got caught in a little bit of traffic, so we whipped out some bubble gum and tried to have a bubble blowing contest.  Most of the younger kids had never blown a bubble before, so it was mostly learning how to blow a bubble.  

 The campground/RV park was really pretty, right on a little lake with lots of pretty trees.  We just made dinner that night and hung out around the trailer.  

Thursday August 27th

 Eating breakfast before heading out for the day.  The kids loved watching the ducks waddle around as they ate. 

 Our first stop was Pike Place market. We tried to show them the fish market and how they throw the fish around, but they thought it was more weird than anything.  

 They had so many beautiful flowers and so much yummy fruit!

 We bought a few peaches and ate them up right there--they were so good!

 After walking around and looking at the market, we walked down to the waterfront to find a place to eat for lunch.  There was a restaurant on this pier where we ate.  

 Paige and Lydia ordered root beer (or maybe it was creme soda?) and they came out in glass bottles...they enjoyed drinking out of those.

 Then we walked all over Seattle to get to the place where we were going to go on a Duck boat tour.

 Everyone got a duck whistle...which became really annoying after the first 5 seconds!  

 The tour was actually quite fun!  The tour lasted about 90 minutes.  The driver/tour guide was really funny...he'd play really loud, fun music and we all sang a long and he'd change hats depending on the song or what we were doing.  You drove around the streets for awhile, and then we'd cruise around Lake Union and he showed us the Sleepless in Seattle House.

 This was our boat, after we got off.  We headed back home after our duck tour.  

 Garrett bought a selfie stick while we were out and about and they spent all evening playing around with it.  I think we stopped at a hoagie place for dinner on the way home.

 Friday August 28th

Garrett had thought it would be fun to take a ferry to another island (can't remember the name of it now) and do some exploring there, but we all decided that it would be fun to just hang out where we were.

We played at the park for awhile, then went back to the trailer to eat lunch.

We were going to go find a movie theater and see the Minions movie, but first we found a quilt store, so they let me stop for a few minutes to look around.  We saw the movie, then went out for pizza and then went back to the trailer and played games (scattergories, spot-it and Uno) until bedtime.  

 My sister Tiffany became a grandma today.  Seriously hard to believe, because she is so young!! Her daughter Karlie had a little boy named Gavin--he's so sweet!  

Saturday August 29th

Today we had planned to go to the EMP museum that's close to the Space needle.  It's a nonprofit museum that is dedicated to contemporary popular culture.  It's technically the "Experience Music Project Museum."  Anyways, they were having a Star Wars exhibit that featured all of the costumes from all the movies--except the new one because it wasn't out yet.  Really that was the highlight of the museum.  

 They also had this cool piece of art made out of all sorts of guitars.  

 We found a couple of other fun things in the museum.  Going thrift store shopping with Macklemore...

 Then in a different part, they had costumes from other movies...we laughed at the Invisibility cloak!!

 We walked around for a bit and found a cute little diner where we stopped and had hamburgers. 

 We had some time to kill before we were supposed to be at the Space needle for our tour, so we found a children's museum and played in there for what seemed like hours.  The kids had a blast--there was a lot to do!

the view was beautiful!!  It was very stormy and windy up there and it started raining on us eventually.  

We typed our name in and it told us how far we had traveled to get to the space needle...174 miles.

When we were driving back to our campground, we stopped to get some dinner at a restaurant.  All the lights were on, and the open sign was on, but there was no one inside and the doors were locked.  We figured that the power had gone out and so they locked up and went home, but when the power came back on, there was no one to turn off the lights.  

We went back to our trailer and found that the tree that was right behind us had blown over from the big storm that came through while we were out.  The people next to us said that when the tree fell some of the top branches hit our trailer, but the management soon came and cut those branches off.  There was no damage to our trailer, thank heavens, but was still quite the shock to come back and see a tree down so close to your trailer.  

Our trailer is the Laredo.  From the pictures, it looks like the tree is touching it.  

We packed up and headed home the next day.
