Garrett's grandparents passed away in 2008. We haven't been back since they passed away, so we wanted to go to the cemetary and put flowers on their graves. His grandpa died in April and his grandmother died in November. We all miss them!
After the cemetary, since it was so hot outside, we decided to go somewhere cool--bowling! Unfortuneately, Bella fell asleep on the way there, so I sat out in van with her for about an hour and a half so she could sleep. We missed all the bowling.
Amelia and Noah sure know how to entertain themselves.
Later, we went over to Jake and Meggin's house. She made us beans and rice for dinner, at Garrett's request. They both went to Brazil for their missions (he went to Porto Alegre and she went to Rio de Janeiro) and grew to love the Brazilian food.
This picture is kind of hard to see, but Garrett's dad is in the door of the barn getting ready to throw hay out to the cows. I thought it would be a cool picture--I need to work on the lighting.
July 9th

It was soo hot that day...these poor men are in full costume with wool coats and numerous layers on. They were drenched!

Later that day, Grandma put together an Easter Egg Hunt just for the fun of it.
Candy filled eggs!
Grandma and grandpa plant a fruit tree for each of the grandkids. Some of the trees have died, so they've had to replant some. Notice in the next picture how big Paige's is compared to Lydia's. I think all my kids are peach trees except Maggie who is a pear. They also have apple and cherry trees.

Once a year, McConnelsville hosts a Civil War Enactment. They have other activities besides the battles. The previous night, they have the Northern soldiers on one side of the river and the Confederates on the other side. They take turns shooting off canons at each other. We went down and watched and it was SO LOUD, but kind of entertaining.
On Saturday after we went to the waterpark, we went through town and walked through all the camps that they have set up with the "soldiers-actors" actually camping there. You can walk through and ask them questions and they'll tell you all about life during the civil war. It was interesting. That night, they were having a ball out in the square. Georgia took Maggie to see it. She liked seeing all the pretty dresses.
July 10th
The next afternoon, after church, they were having the last battle enactment. So, we raced home to watch it. It was cool to watch, but scary to think how the battles were fought. They had a guy on loudspeaker that would kind of tell what the soldiers were doing and why.

How cute is it that the kids have trees named after them! What a great idea. Looks like a fun vacation. I do feel bad for those people in costumes; they looked hot!
I'll bet it was so interesting to all that reenactment. What crazy people who fight light that. The kids all look great with their trees!
That civil war stuff is cool! I too, love the fruit trees....neat idea!
